Randolph Peter Best or Pete Best was born the 24th of November 1941, in Madras, British India. During 1960 the Silver Beatles played without a permanent drummer. Finally, when their manager Allan Williams secured a tour of Hamburg,
it was decided that the drummer situation had to be solved. The solution was Pete Best. The band knew Pete from a club they
had often played and now frequented, The Casbah - where Pete's own group (The Blackjacks) were resident. Paul McCartney phoned Pete in August 1960 asking him if he was interested in joining the band. Pete
discussed the situation with his fellow Blackjacks who happily agreed that Pete should take up his place with The Beatles. Pete formally auditioned, became a Beatle on 12th August 1960 and
left for Germany with John, Paul, George and Stuart. It was on their first recording date in June 1962 that they met
George Martin at Abbey Road Studios. The Pete Best Band line up changes from time to time, comprising of session musicians both
young and older! The Pete Best Band captures the sound of the Beatles in their formative years - the early years for many
'was' The Beatles. He is active during
1959, 1968, 1988, to present. Pete Best was dismissed from the group two years later, on the 16th
August 1962, but was never given a full explanation as to the reason why. It may have been because he did
not fit stylistically. He later worked as a civil servant for 20 years, before starting The Pete Best Band. Best has been married for over 40 years to Kathy Best; they have
two daughters and four grandchildren. Pete Best was a great drummer who loved music.
